December 20, 2019

I’ve had a handful of mental breakdowns this past week. I think it has to do with all the life changes happening and the holiday being around the corner, it’s making me really just miss my mom. What I mean is more than the usual amounts of missing her. Time’s moving by so quickly and one thing that makes me feel somewhat guilty is how I’m able to live without her…

But that’s the whole point of all of this, right? Learning to live without her? I mean after all there’s nothing anyone can do to make her come back… Trying to stay positive can be extremely difficult sometimes, but I can’t stop my progress. Momma didn’t raise a quitter. Sooo five things I have grateful for today:

  1. The time I had with my mom
  2. Having an amazing mom to look up to
  3. For who I am because of my parents
  4. Time healing my wounds
  5. God & Mom always looking out for me

December 19th

Wow I’m really bad at this challenge, missed another day. There is an explanation for it though, I mean I might as well justify my actions right? Well here goes nothing, our 16 hour car ride home from Arizona ended up taking nearly 20 hours because the highway was shut down for nearly 3 hours (while we were in the middle of nowhere). Sooooo when we finally got home yesterday I spent the majority of my day lounging around not being stuck in an upright position haha. Then today was pretty busy for me too, it’s 6 days before Christmas and with how hectic life has been I haven’t had a chance to finish shopping so I spent most of my day trying to do just that. Until I got home and realized just how close Christmas was and we didn’t even have our tree up yet, if this doesn’t sum up how crazy life has been lately then I’m not sure what does. Long story short I am finally tucked away in bed and figured it was a good time to catch up on blogging. To make up for yesterday here’s 10 things I am grateful for:

  1. Sleep
  2. That I woke up today
  3. good health (for the most part haha)
  4. Having aunts who take care of us and make sure we have a home cooked meal at least 5 days a week since mom passed
  5. being surrounded by such amazing people
  6. the ability to buy things i like/want
  7. being able to afford gifts for my loved ones
  8. having my own car
  9. not having to make car payments
  10. time to binge netflix series

Four days into my own challenge and I already failed, I promise it was for a good reason though. Today I officially graduated college with my Bachelors Degree, one major change and six years later but all my hard work and dedication has finally paid off. As with anything else since mom passed the moment is bitter sweet, But I know she’s up in heaven celebrating too.

So back to my challenge, I’ll make it up by posting 20 things that I’m thankful for:

  1. Finally graduating College
  2. Having a support system who believe in me even when I doubt myself
  3. Having a close knit family
  4. The professors who helped me grow as a person
  5. Starbucks for helping me find my passion and paying part of my tuition
  6. Coffee for the late nights and early mornings

It’s not about what’s under the tree but who is gathered around it

Holidays are a time to be thankful

Tonight while I was cleaning my room and sorting through Christmas gifts I bought for my loved ones, I realized there are a lot of small every day details that I take for granted. Particularly I was thinking about how grateful I am that I don’t have to worry about picking out an outfit everyday for work since I know I have to wear black scrubs. I then started to think about all things we take for granted during the holiday season, mainly because when it comes to buying a gift for your loved ones you want to get them something that shows how much they mean to you. But we are all missing the big point, the holidays are a time to be thankful and a time to cherish moments.
I decided in that moment I wanted to challenge myself to posting a blog about 5 things I am grateful for each day for the rest of December (maybe longer). So here I go, 5 things I am grateful for are:

  1. Having a loving family that supports me in everything I do
  2. Having sweet friends that check on me during my grieving process
  3. Having a roof over my head, money in the bank, car to drive, food to eat, running water, electricity; all the essentials to a comfortable life
  4. allergy medicine because I cannot imagine my life without it
  5. my dogs because they just make everything better

Missing piece

With graduation right around the corner (literally next Monday) everyone keeps asking me what’s my next move? And honestly I can’t come up with an answer because most days I still feel like a piece of me is missing. I feel like I can’t make any big decisions because nothing feels quite right. I wish I had words of encouragement from my mom, I wish she would have been able to be by my side for my biggest achievement. I feel like I’m being robbed because nothing in the world will change the fact that I just need my mom.
